Celebrations to honor Nyepi Silence Day

Jumeirah Bali Resort is surrounded by the island’s natural beauty, located in the Uluwatu region, perched on a limestone cliff overlooking the sunset and surrounding ocean. The architecture is a tribute to the Hindu-Javanese culture of the fallen Majapahit Empire, and the resort offers 123 villas, each with a private pool overlooking the ocean and tropical landscape. Guests can dine at the resort’s three restaurants, rejuvenate at Talise Spa, which features Bali’s first hammam, or stay active in the fitness center. Jumeirah Bali offers a retreat designed to encourage disconnection from the outside world and reconnection with oneself.
For Nyepi, March 29, Bali’s Day of Silence, the resort organizes a day of quiet for all guests, allowing nature and soul to come together in harmony as part of Bali’s Saka New Year traditions. The festivities begin on the eve, March 28, with Pengerupukan Day, characterized by rituals aimed at purifying the past and preparing for renewal. The Mecaru Ceremony represents the beginning of the evening with the proposal to restore the balance between man and nature. Then the Kecak Dance, which begins at sunset, accompanies moments of reflection with songs and rhythmic stories, followed by the Tedung Dance, which symbolizes protection. Next, the Rangda Dance is a representation of transformation, and is the prelude to the Ogoh-Ogoh Parade, the procession with the effigies created by the local artist I Putu Darmayasa, from the village of Ungasan, south of Kuta. The effigies, according to Balinese tradition, represent Bhuta Mandar and Bhuta Mandir, dark spirits that are bearers of destructive energies, which are purified by the ritual, allowing the balance to be restored before Nyepi. On the morning of March 29, all streets are empty, businesses are closed, and flights are grounded: a moment not only of silence, but an invitation to reflect and renew. At Jumeirah, Nyepi is more than a day of silence, it is an invitation for guests to slow down, reflect, and begin again with clarity and awareness. For those who want to live this moment to the fullest, the property offers “A Journey of Serenity at Jumeirah Bali,” an experience with the possibility of staying from March 27 to April 6. The offer includes breakfast daily and a dinner for two on March 29. In honor of the essence of Nyepi, there will be no check-in or check-out on that day. Guests at Jumeirah Bali are invited to immerse themselves in this tranquility within their private villas, surrounded by the beauty of the Uluwatu coastline, with the Indian Ocean stretching away into the distance and the golden sunlight filtering through the gardens and, without artificial light, watching the night sky reveal its expanse of stars.
